Making your own eye pillow is easy even for someone without much skill at sewing. Simply follow these instructions to make a 4” x 10” eye pillow in about an hour.
Materials List
- 8" x 10" piece of fabric such as cotton or silk (natural fabrics work well)
- Sewing thread
- Pins (optional)
- Flax seeds and dried lavender flowers
Tool List
- Sewing machine or simply a needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Directions
- Use your measuring tape to cut the fabric to size. The size of your fabric needs to be twice the size of the finished eye pillow therefore, an 8" x 10" piece of fabric will create a 4" x 10" eye pillow.
- Once you have cut the fabric, fold it in half length ways, making sure that the right side of the fabric is facing inwards, pinning or ironing the fabric to hold it in place. Sew seams on the long side and one of the short sides to create a long, narrow pouch.
- Turn the pouch inside out so that the seams are hidden inside and the decorative side of the fabric is now showing.
- Measure out your filling – you can experiment with what is ideal for you, but 1 1/2 cups of flax and 1/2 a cup Lavender should work well. You don’t want your eye pillow to be too full.
Once you have filled the pouch with flax and lavender, fold the raw edge of fabric inside, pin in place and sew closed.
Once you have completed your eye pillow, lay back and give it a try! Simply place gently over your eyes and inhale the relaxing lavender fragrance. Now that you have made one, how about trying out some different fillings? We fill our eye pillows with all sorts of different herbs depending on the need. Take a look through all the different herbs that we use and find one that will suit you.
